We're proud to share a new milestone: over five million drivers across our vast customer network are now monitored by SambaSafety. This achievement represents our shared commitment to making roads safe for everyone.
The Growing Challenge of Mitigating Driver Risk
The complexity of roadway safety continues to pose a challenge for fleet operators and commercial auto insurers. Our 2025 Driver Risk Report reveals troubling trends that are reshaping fleets:
- Insurance costs continue to surge, rising 11.1% year-over-year and outpacing other inflation contributors.
- Speeding violations account for nearly 40% of all major traffic violations.
- Distracted driving remains a critical threat to safety, with nearly half of Americans admitting to reading texts or emails while driving.
- Claim costs are escalating, driven by the increasing sophistication of vehicle technology and longer repair times.
The presented challenges underscore how important solutions, such as monitoring, can be in helping combat roadway incidents, which continue to be a leading cause of workplace fatalities.
Why Continuous Driver Monitoring Matters
Consider traditional motor vehicle record (MVR) checks. These once or twice a year pulls are simply not enough to understand driver risk. Violations and crashes can occur at any time, and waiting months to discover them leaves organizations vulnerable to risk.
Our data in the report tells a compelling story of what is possible for fleet operators who implement continuous monitoring. Over 50% of insurance claims for fleets in 2019 were over $10,000. After the monitoring went into effect, the number slowly fell; in 2023, roughly 35% of claims still exceeded the $10,000 threshold.
Similarly, injury and fatality rates dropped from 17% to 13.5% of all crashes within three years of implementing monitoring. And when combined with training, violations were reduced by an average of 77%. Continuous monitoring opens the door to regularly addressing driver risk or violations, rather than just once or twice a year.
<H2>Why Five Million Drivers Matters<H2>
Every driver monitored through the SambaSafety platform represents an opportunity to prevent an incident before it occurs. With over five million drivers, spanning thousands of customers, our continuous monitoring helps create a safer environment for the drivers themselves, their employers and everyone sharing the road.
The scale matters. With more monitored drivers, employers have access to more data and insights that build a stronger foundation of safety programs that work and can be rewarded by their insurer.
This approach to driver safety is no longer viewed as a compliance checkbox; it’s now about building safety legacies that drive continued success, retention, and credibility as a safety leader in an expansive industry like commercial trucking.
Where SambaSafety Is Going Next
Five million drivers is a milestone we’re proud of at SambaSafety, but it’s also a reminder of how much more work remains to be done. With roadway fatalities still climbing and incidents remaining the leading cause of workplace deaths, better safety tools and intelligence are essential.
Our path forward is clear—with investments in continuous monitoring, paired with training, organizations can use this insightful data to make decisions that improve safety and their bottom line. These investments can significantly reduce claim costs and protect drivers.
From our team, we appreciate our customers who have committed to building their safety legacies with the help of SambaSafety, paving the way toward safer roads for all. To gain a deeper understanding of the current risk landscape affecting fleets and insurers, download our report.
