The presented challenges underscore how important solutions, such as monitoring, can be in helping combat roadway incidents, which continue to be a leading cause of workplace fatalities.
Why Continuous Driver Monitoring Matters
Consider traditional motor vehicle record (MVR) checks. These once or twice a year pulls are simply not enough to understand driver risk. Violations and crashes can occur at any time, and waiting months to discover them leaves organizations vulnerable to risk.
Our data in the report tells a compelling story of what is possible for fleet operators who implement continuous monitoring. Over 50% of insurance claims for fleets in 2019 were over $10,000. After the monitoring went into effect, the number slowly fell; in 2023, roughly 35% of claims still exceeded the $10,000 threshold.
Similarly, injury and fatality rates dropped from 17% to 13.5% of all crashes within three years of implementing monitoring. And when combined with training, violations were reduced by an average of 77%. Continuous monitoring opens the door to regularly addressing driver risk or violations, rather than just once or twice a year.
