SambaSafety's Pro-DEFENSE Program
The industry's most complete online defensive driving curriculum.
The Foundation of Smarter, Safer Driving
Every day, your drivers make countless quick decisions that jeopardize their safety and the safety of others who share the road. Pro-DEFENSE, SambaSafety's online defensive driver training series, gives your drivers the skills and confidence needed to make the right choice every time, keeping them alert and reducing incidents.
The seven core topics of our fleet defensive driver training build a strong foundation of safety knowledge, covering all driver types and experience levels. Courses are also tailored by vehicle type—heavy duty, medium duty, light duty and sedans—for maximum relevance and engagement.

Distractions
Your drivers make hundreds of decisions every mile, so any distraction can lead to costly mistakes. Modern vehicle technology may increase comfort, but it also creates a false sense of security. This training equips your drivers to recognize and manage visual, auditory, manual and cognitive distractions, understand the law and react safely to other distracted drivers on the road.

Effective Communication
Defensive driving starts with making your intentions known. Drivers must use turn signals, headlights, horns and speed adjustments to communicate clearly before any maneuver. This training teaches drivers how to effectively signal their actions, interpret the cues of others and anticipate surrounding behavior. They’ll also learn the proper use of warning devices and signals on the road.

Fatigue Management
Recognizing the early signs of fatigue is essential to preventing serious safety risks. When drivers understand how tiredness affects their judgment and reaction time, they’re more likely to take breaks before their performance slips. This training covers what fatigue is, how it impacts driving and practical strategies to manage it. Drivers will also learn about federal fatigue regulations and how to use sleep cycles to stay alert and in control.

Evaluating Space
Maintaining a safe space around the vehicle is one of the most effective ways to prevent collisions. When drivers understand how to manage space in traffic, during lane changes, turns and at intersections, they stay in control and reduce risk. This training teaches drivers how to define and maintain a proper space cushion, adjust to traffic flow, navigate blind spots and make safe, predictable maneuvers.

Navigating Hazards
Drivers must be equipped to recognize hazards early and react with confidence. This training prepares your team to handle changing road conditions, navigate around obstructions and respond safely to distracted, impaired or unpredictable road users. From parked vehicles to complex traffic situations, drivers will learn how to stay alert, adaptable and in control.

Speed Management
Speed is a major factor in many crashes, but with the right training, drivers can learn to stay in control and avoid speed-related incidents. This course covers how to manage speed in response to road conditions, traffic, curves, hills and aggressive drivers, giving your team the tools to maintain safe stopping distances and react in time.

Essential Planning
Before getting behind the wheel, drivers need a clear plan. Knowing the route, fuel needs, available hours and destination details helps prevent unexpected issues and delays. This training promotes a proactive mindset, covering essential trip planning, vehicle inspections, injury prevention and smart driving strategies including navigating parking lots and customer locations with confidence.
Modern Risks Require a Modern Solution
As vehicle technology and safety standards evolve, your fleet’s defensive driver training should too. While other legacy programs teach outdated practices, our advanced approach is designed to stay ahead of modern-day challenges.

Training Solutions
Core concepts
Intuitive and easy-to-apply concepts designed for quick recall and real-world application. Addresses all factors impacting driver safety (e.g., auditory, visual, manual and cognitive distractions).
Concepts may feel less intuitive without prior exposure or formal instruction. Primarily focused on visual awareness, neglecting other risk factors and strategies.
Content Relevance & Quality
Content is updated monthly with relevant visuals, modern driving scenarios and engaging topics, tailored to specific drivers and vehicle types.
Based on decades-old concepts that have not fully evolved for current driving conditions, leading to gaps in lessons, dated instructional style and redundant material.
Topic Breadth & Expertise
Experts in eLearning across a variety of content categories. Defensive driving is considered the foundation for all drivers but is built upon with various, more targeted content categories.
Legacy providers tend to be built on Behind the Wheel (BTW), in-person training with a primary focus on defensive driving. Lack expertise and depth in other areas, such as Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT).
Configurability
Highly configurable platform with options to customize content, host company materials and choose from various delivery options. Start training immediately with quick, cloud-based set-up.
Lack support for uploading custom or external content. BTW training can demand a more lengthy set-up process, requiring a “train the trainer” approach and in-person resources.
Risk Management Capabilities
Identify, monitor and address driver risk in a single platform. Comprehensive suite of risk management capabilities includes MVR, CSA and Telematics Monitoring, plus Analytics, Risk Scoring and more.
Core competency and offering are typically training. Lack other capabilities critical for effective driver risk management, such as MVR monitoring, CSA monitoring, and tend to have limited telematics integrations.
Intelligent Intervention Workflows
Integrated intervention workflows allow instant assignment of relevant training courses using AI-based recommendations directly from MVR, CSA or Telematics Monitoring alerts.
Require third-party integrations and multiple systems to identify and act on driver risks, creating delays in response time and added friction in the intervention process.
Customer Success Story
"The interactive driver safety lessons have been very effective to not only satisfy the pre-employment, periodic and post-incident required training for compliance purposes, but also assists drivers with retaining the information presented better than a more lecture style training program. There is a lesson for just about any Transportation topic, and the ability for our drivers to view the lessons from anywhere with internet services has been helpful with ensuring prompt lesson completions."
